Clarissa Jean, Homecoming Queen
By author – Jessica Goodwin
Genre – Chick Lit/Romance
When Claire Bradshaw decides to end her dead-end relationship of several years, she only has one place to go – back home to the tiny town of Palmetto Park. Claire keeps bumping into people from her past as she struggles to shake her “better than everybody” reputation, make peace with her enemies, and even attempts to rekindle an old flame. Claire gets to know her old friends all over again and gets to know more about herself as she starts over – right back where it all started.
Buy the Book:
This novel is my first read from author Jessica Goodwin. If you are in need of some cosy and happy reading material, you should pick up this book. I really liked her style of writing and the characters are also easy to like.
Claire (Clarissa Jean) is the middle of a little circle of friends with whom she spent her years before going away to college. When she returns after dumping her cheating boyfriend Steve, she rekindles these old friendships and tries to make amends to the people she wasn’t so nice to before she left, although it’s not easy to prove that the past is the past and she has changed for the better. Although she’s back home to Palmetto Park, population under 1,000, with no real plans for the future other than live with her parents again for the time being, she doesn’t have a pinch of regret and there’s no letting her head down at all in this novel. She only moves forward and she jumps in at new opportunities coming her way.
It’s quite nice to see her achieving what she wants, even though love seems to skip over her. She gets a lot of help from her best buddies Cooper, Justin, Eddie and Daryl when she invests herself in a new business called Triple B, together with her aunt Nancy.
The only thing that I perhaps missed a little bit was the gradual building and blooming of her romantic feelings towards the end. This novel doesn’t get stuck in the well-worn paths of the chicklit genre.
Even though it’s clear that the outcome will not exactly be what we are expecting or wishing for, I was quite happy how the story was wrapped up and I could close this book with a good feeling and a happy sigh.
About Jessica Goodwin:
Jessica Goodwin lives in northern Virginia near Washington, DC with her husband, son, and their two cats. She likes cookies, coffee, and anything that sparkles. If she could have any animal for a pet, it would be a T-Rex. She loves experimenting in the kitchen, going wine tasting, singing in the shower, and taking pictures of the baby.
Two of Goodwin’s books, ‘Here We Go’ and ‘The One Who Got Away’ have been on the Amazon bestseller list. In March 2012, her third book, ‘One of the Guys,’ received an Honorable Mention in Sapphire Star Publishing’s Month of Romance contest. These titles were originally published on Amazon under her former name, Jessica Strassner, but have been rereleased under the name Jessica Goodwin.
