WWW Wednesday is a book list hosted by Taking on a World of Words, and I’m happy to participate today.
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
What I’m Reading:
I can’t believe I’m reading one good book after another but this really is a super suspenseful read about a hostage situation and a volatile hostage taker.
The Killing Game by J.S. Carol
Imagine you are having lunch at an exclusive restaurant, filled with Hollywood’s hottest stars.
And a masked gunman walks in and takes everyone hostage.
You must bargain for your life against a twisted individual who knows everything about you.
He also has a bomb set to detonate if his heart rate changes.
If he dies. You die.
You have four hours to stay alive.
What would you do?
A heart-stopping thriller with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat, for fans of Peter Swanson, Harlan Coben and Linwood Barclay.
What I (recently) finished:
I read this one some time ago but I want to mention it because it was also hard to put down. A great author.
Still Missing by Chevy Stevens
On the day she was abducted, thirty-two year-old Annie Sullivan had three goals – sell a house, forget a recent argument with her mother, and be on time for dinner with her ever-patient boyfriend.
Then a van pulls up outside the house she is selling. Annie thinks it’s her lucky day.
But nothing could be further from the truth…
‘Every now and then a new author comes along that totally knocks one out of the park… In addition to her compelling heroine, Stevens has created one of the best psychopaths since Hannibal Lector-and that’s not something I say lightly. As the taut cat and mouse game unfolds, you will cheer for Annie. You will hate The Freak. And you will be absolutely mesmerized by the last line of this novel. Then, most likely, you will return to page one, and start it all over again.’ Lisa Gardner
What I’ll probably read soon:
I’ve read and reviewed The Quiet Ones earlier this year (you can find my review here) and I’m really looking forward to reading another novel by this author. The Quiet Ones had some very ‘very’ unexpected twists so I have high expectations for this one too. It already has lots of great ratings so I look forward to reading this. Also, everyone seems to be into creepy reads and this cover is my kind of creepy!
The Optician’s Wife by Betsy Reavley
Can you ever really know someone?
When Deborah, an unpopular seventeen-year-old, meets the charming and handsome Larry, he sweeps her off her feet. The trouble is Larry has a secret.
Then a series of grisly murders cast a shadow over everything.
As Deborah’s world starts to fall apart she begins to suspect the man she loves of a terrible betrayal. And to keep their marriage alive, sacrifices must be made.
A compelling, psychological thriller that unpicks what goes on behind closed doors and reminds us that sometimes the worst crimes can take place closer to home than you think.
