WWW Wednesday is a book list hosted by Taking on a World of Words, and I’m happy to participate today.
Three W’s:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
What I’m Reading:
I’m a real newbie when it comes to reading nordic crime, but based on this read I think I can safely say that I can really appreciate the genre. The Owl Always Hunts at Night proves to be an interesting investigation of a mysterious death so far.
The Owl Always Hunts at Night by Samuel Bjork
What I (recently) finished:
Believe me when I say that this one will be hyped and you really shouldn’t miss the talk of town! I’m already sitting on my review and I’m all excited about sharing it with everyone next week.
The One by John Marrs
What I’ll probably read soon:
This cover grabbed my attention and with a book title like that, it was asking for a closer inspection. I’ve never heard about this author before and didn’t know this is one of a series but I hope I’ll be able to read it as a standalone.
The Forgotten Girls by Owen Laukkanen
They are the victims no one has ever cared about, until now. Agents Stevens and Windermere return in the blistering new crime novel from the fast-rising, multi-award-nominated suspense star.
She was a forgotten girl, a runaway found murdered on the High Line train through the northern Rocky Mountains and, with little local interest, put into a dead file. But she was not alone. When Kirk Stevens and Carla Windermere of the joint FBI-BCA violent crime force stumble upon the case, they discover a horror far greater than anyone expected—a string of murders on the High Line, all of them young women drifters whom no one would notice.
But someone has noticed now. Through the bleak midwinter and a frontier land of forbidding geography, Stevens and Windermere follow a frustratingly light trail of clues—and where it ends, even they will be shocked.
So that’s it, what are you reading this week? Share your link in the comments below so that I can come and take a look !

I’m just as curious what you’ll say about The Owl Always Hunts at Night now! I’m quite positive about this book so far, it’s keeping my mind very occupied so that’s a good thing. Cool buddy reading this one, I look forward to both opinions!

Have you read the first book in the series?
I’m asking because we both haven’t. We had no idea this was the part of the series, but appearently it can be read as standalone.

No I haven’t read the first one.. this can be read as a standalone but it’s not a bad idea to read the first novel beforehand. There is some reference to Mia’s sister and things that happened and she’s also put on such a pedestal here by her colleagues, I didn’t see any reason why.

I’ve got The One on my TBR and I’m really keen to read it soon – I think once I’ve caught up on a couple more review books I’ll read it as a treat. The Forgotten Girls has a really striking and memorable cover – it’s made me intrigued to know more about the book. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Im a relative newcomer to Nordic noir too – any authors you would recommend especially?

I’m new too to the genre and only know Stieg Larson and Camilla Lackberg. I see there’s a lot of buzz about Ragnar Jonasson. And there’s Jo Nesbo too of course. I haven’t read any of their books yet though but maybe I should broaden my horizon a little bit :-).

Two names you might want to add to your list: Yrsa Sigurdardotti – Icelandic writer. I enjoyed this one a lot https://bookertalk.com/2015/10/15/nordic-mystery-the-silence-of-the-sea-by-yrsa-sigurdardottiron/
Also from Iceland is Arnaldur Indriðason which I enjoyed even more

That Forgotten Girls cover.. sigh ❤ I really like it. It sounds promising also. I hope it does work as a standalone. Sometimes we just need single doses haha. As a fantasy reader, it is so rare 😉

I know right ?! There are lots of detective series too but usually you can still sort of read them as a standalone without missing too much. I rather read a series from the beginning but I really don’t see myself reading another 3 first here ;-).

That is a jump back haha.. 3. I can definitely understand. I am actually posting a super light discussion on series this morning. Maybe it was subconsciously inspired by your review 😘

I’ve got The One from NetGalley too and I’m so glad to see you enjoyed it. I’ve tried Nordic crime before but the only one I really enjoyed was The Chosen (Fredrika Bergman & Alex Recht #5) by Kristina Ohlsson.

Can’t wait to see what you think about The One! I thought I wouldn’t like nordic crime as much as I do.. I think it really depends on the author and how he writes.
