I’ve never tindered in my life. In my younger years you only met your new love interest through friends or you just had to pluck up the courage to step up to a complete stranger. That’s also how Cali met Jamie, but after 12 years and being married a little over a year he traded her in for ‘their’ personal trainer. And now times have changed and Cali has to catch up with modern dating if she doesn’t want to spend the rest of her life stuck at home with a foul-mouthed parrot.

I loved that Cali’s emotions are not your usual cliche which I have to read about more often than not. She’s angry at Jamie but still loves him too, her feelings are clear and she’s not trying to hide it from herself or the reader. She doesn’t get hung up on a revenge angle though nor trying to get him back at any cost.

This novel isn’t a string of all the weird dates she finds through this dating app.. well the first one inevitably is but soon after there is some real potential. There’s Will, the handsome military officer, there’s Mario, a very hot Formula 1 pilot and I had a feeling that Jamie aka Big Boy J, as her hilarious parrot calls him, might be having second thoughts too as he seems to find all sorts of reasons to turn up at her place unannounced quite a few times. Who will she choose?

While she’s making her way through a few dates, learning through trial and error that some men aren’t really looking for love, there’s also a thing or two happening at work with her colleagues. The drama and entertainment level was quite high in this novel and I couldn’t wait to find out what was waiting around the corner (or page here). The only thing that was extravagantly outrageous was Lady P, the parrot – well African Grey – with her foul mouth. Lady P was a fantastic addition to the story and that bird was able to make me smile every single time something came out of its mouth.

Even though I wouldn’t have made some of the choices Cali makes – she is a bit naive after all and I’d like to think that I’m not – I could connect very well with her. I was on pins and needles to see if she’d make the right choice and choose the right guy in the end but I can only say all’s well that ends well eventually. This was a perfect distraction and a serious beam of sunlight on what originally started out as another dull day.

I received a free copy of this novel from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

  1. I never did Tinder either…you said “in your younger years,” so now you’ve piqued my interest! Hmm, I can’t see your face in your Twitter pics AND I don’t know how old you are…are you my age? Eternally 29? 🤔😉

    • Yes I’m that old ;-). Yes I’m eternally 29 too (it was 28 but I think I might have to add a year by now). I’m not going to tell you my age because I really don’t feel that number 😉 and no there are no pictures of me, not even on my FB page because I hate my face.. but I still can lie about my age and everybody thinks I’m many years younger :-).

      • Oh, I know how you feel. And I’m sure you look years younger than you are, as I could tell by the rest of you, lol. People have seen mine and I don’t love it, but they never guess my age. Trust me, I hate being my age when I have to say it out loud, so I usually add that I’m aging backward like Benjamin Button! 😂

  2. You know, the book actually sounds quite good… Sounds like the dating scene is pulled off quite nicely and I do occasionally enjoy personal dramas! 😉 Hehehe… oh Tinder though… yeah, I’ve never used it either.. probably because I was already ‘tied down’ by the time it went mainstream, and even if I was single I wouldn’t use the app.. it feels… weird somehow… doesn’t it go by location somehow as well? I’d be mortified to use the app and be ‘offered’ to all the single neighbors and oh gosh- workmates? yikes! I couldn’t put myself out there on an app, like a freaking pair of shoes… however, that said, it is good to hear some success stories and good on people who have the confidence to use Tinder.

    • This novel really shows the good, the bad and the weird ;-). Yes Tinder looks for people close to you if you want.. the idea doesn’t really appeal to me either but I do think it’s faster and easier if you like the sight of someone. Having to talk to some stranger that you don’t know seems harder than first getting to know each other safely behind a computer screen or phone.. So there are some advantages.. but then there will always be guys who don’t look anywhere near their picture anymore ;-).

  3. Tinder, something I barely know a thing about xD Yikes, the dating scene, I don’t want to think about it. It’s the only good thing about that agoraphobia, I don’t have to go on dates, hahaha! I like the sound of this book, I understand from your review that’s it’s not just a random dating book, and that it’s a real slice of fun and a good distraction, and I admit the dating thing is a good way to spend a few nice hours meeting the worst and the best of what’s out there! Great review!!
