New BFF: Books and Munches

Today on the blog I welcome Kathy, a 24-year-old booklover who lives in Belgium, just like me! She has a very cool blog called Books & Munches that you really need to check out if you haven’t already. I love her reviewing style and the fact that she pairs the reviews with lots of tastiness. The ‘munches’ that make Kathy the happiest are spaghetti (she’s a spaghetti-addict), cupcakes, hot chocolate and pancakes. She really does have great taste in munches :-).

Kathy has started her blog Books & Munches in June this year so she’s just reached her 6 month milestone, but I certainly can’t tell from looking at her blog. It seems like she’s been around a long time and she has accomplished so much already. She participated in several reading challenges over the year and has even organised a Christmas card exchange. I’m very happy that I got to meet this lovely girl in person last month and that I can add her name to my Best Blog Friends!

Name: Kathy

Age: 25

Birthday: September 15th

What did you study or do you study now / what is your current job?
I tried to study, does that count? Honestly, going to school wasn’t really my thing once I was 18. I had my social life and was ready to stand on my own two feet.
As for my current job, that’s an administrative one. Just imagine me staring at a screen all day, trying to solve problems that occurred in files thanks to a program that was enrolled too soon.

Do you have any other hobbies?
My blog and reading are my hobbies. There are other things I like doing, of course, but I wouldn’t necessarily call them hobbies. *Okay, I’m being difficult.*
Making cupcakes! Going to shows of local bands! Festivals!

Your favourite color?
Blue, without a doubt. Although I used to answer this with “I don’t know?” and then I noticed that 99% of the stuff I buy is either black, grey or.. blue.

Do you collect anything (besides books)?
I was going to say nope, but.. I do have my fair bit of Harry Potter-madness going on? Not over the top-madness but.. I have four sweaters? And a Fantastic Beasts-shirt? Not to mention my wand, butter beer bottle, and other fun stuff, haha.

What’s the name of the book that you’ve had the longest? Have you read it?
Haha. Harry Potter, definitely! Without a doubt! Or do those “Tiny”-books count as well? Like, they’re at my mom’s but technically still mine? Did read them all though!

Have you ever regretted a book you purchased? A book that sounded so promising but you wished you’d have spent your money on another book after reading it?

A_ThVH_CIAA0H2gNope. I never regret buying any books. I seriously just like grabbing a stack of books, pay for them and then showing them off at home. Sue me, I’m a bad person like that. Addicted to buying books? Me!

If I end up not liking a book I bought, I simply try to find someone who I think might enjoy it more. Or I take it to a secondhand bookstore to sell. Even though I like keeping all my books, I also like the thought of someone enjoying a book I might not have liked that much. That way, the novel in particular doesn’t have to feel hated all the time? Books have feelings too!

Do you listen to audio books?
Nope! I tried it once but I was distracted by everything. In the end, I simply didn’t know what had happened during the whole thing and read the physical copy.

Do you have a favorite genre?
Fantasy, YA and romance!

What is the book highest on your wishlist right now?
I really, really, really want the sequel to Warcross. And the sequel to Caraval. And the sequel to Daughter of a Pirate King.. GIVE ME THOSE SEQUELS.

How is your library organized?
Let’s just say that at the moment I’m answering this question for the first time: it’s not.
I do have a Harry Potter-shelf and a Sarah J. Maas-shelf right now, but as for all the others… I just tried to put everything according to author. Not even alphabetical; YET. I’ll get to that one day…

Do you read more ebooks or physical books?
Physical books, for sure. Although I don’t mind reading on my Kindle once in a while, that’s mostly reserved for eARC’s. I simply like holding a book in my hands more.

Do you have a favorite book?
Nope, I don’t! There are way too many books out there! But if I have to name a couple:
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas made a huge impact on me. Warcross by Marie Lu is one of my favorite [hyped] books of this year.
Duality of Nature by C.E. Clayton simply is my favorite book of this year! Why? Because she’s a pretty unknown author and she succeeded in blowing me away with her book! I recently read an interview in which she said someone compared her writing to Sarah J. Maas and I can easily say that I love their writing styles equally as much!

What’s the cover in your collection that you’re most proud of?
Oh boy. I’m a sucker for a beautiful cover, but if I have to pick, I’d have to go with Neil Gaiman’s book. I just took it with me because of how it looks. Hadn’t heard of Gaiman before that..

Do you have any idea how many books you own? <100, >100, >200, >300 …?
I’m thinking at least 400 but I’m honestly not sure… Maybe I should count them one day.

What’s the title of the last book you purchased?
The last one I ordered is “Snowflakes on Silver Cove” by Holly Martin. I needed a book with “silver” in the title, haha!

Struggling to finish her current novel, Libby turns to her best friend and neighbour George Donaldson to cheer her up. But George also needs a bit of support himself. Nervous about getting back into the dating saddle after splitting from his wife, he and Libby strike a deal. She will teach George how to win over the ladies, and Libby will in turn be inspired to inject her novel with a good dose of romance.

As Libby and George explore the beautiful White Cliff Bay on a series of romantic Christmas-themed dates, Libby finds herself having more fun than she’s had in ages and…discovers feelings that she never knew she had for George.

But is it too late? Will George win someone else’s heart or can Libby act like the heroine in one of her stories and reach for her own love under the mistletoe this Christmas?

What was your favorite author when you were a child?
Rowling for sure!

From which author do you have most books?
Goodreads tells me that’s Cate Tiernan, but I have to say that those are books I read like.. maybe ten years ago? When it comes to the most recent ones, it’ll be Rowling and Marissa Meyer. Pretty sure Sarah J. Maas and Stephen King are coming close as well..

Are there books you’ve read 2 or 3 times?
Harry Potter. Those are books that I can simply reread every year if I want to. Which I mostly do, but I can’t find the time every year. *sigh*
I got the Dutch, English and illustrated versions so…

How many books are there on your Goodreads challenge this year and how many have you read already?
Originally, my Goodreads-challenge was reading 50 books because I was planning on joining the Popsugar Reading Challenge. Then I reached that goal in July – I think? – and upped it to 80. Right now I read over 140 books… So, I guess I’m good?
I think I’ll put my 2018 goal at 150, but I’m not sure yet.

Can you spell your name with the first letters of titles in your book case ?
Okay, so I don’t own any book starting with ‘Y’ – maybe I should make that my next purchase? – so I ended up going for my nickname, Kath!

Thank you for participating in this feature Kathy, it was nice to get to know you better!
