Would You Rather…? The Spooky Edition, and 10 Scary Books To Spook You

spooky-rather

It’s been ages since I did a tag but my wonderful blog buddie Norrie @Reading Under The Blankie tagged me for an easy one (yay and thank you Norrie!) so here goes:

Thrillers or Supernatural(s)?

Are all of these questions going to be so easy? Thrillers of course, have you seen me review a supernatural novel yet, I think not (actually there was one, I didn’t know it would turn out to be such a story, and I didn’t like it one bit that the whole mystery was resolved by a ghost).

Ghosts or Zombies?

You mean Casper versus those stinking uglies? I’m from a generation raised with the movie Ghost, not The Walking Dead, so of course I choose ghosts, I’m a romantic like that :-).

Vampires or Werewolves?

I’m not sure… don’t werewolves break out of their own skin, isn’t that painful? I’m going to go with vampires.. I think they sleep a lot too so that suits me fine, I like them already. Also all that devouring and stuff seems so manly, I like the subtle way by going to the neck. Yep I’m giving this a lot of thought and will probably continue to think about this topic for the rest of the afternoon. Good thing nobody can hear my thoughts :-).

Witches or Demons?

Ah I think I’d make a cool witch. It makes me think of that tv series Charmed, they could stop time and stuff.. oh there are so many cool possibilities!

Would you rather read a book with 13 chapters or a book with a black cat on the cover?

I actually have a novel with a black cat on the cover to read 🙂 so yes, the second option, no doubt about it. What’s so alluring about a book with 13 chapters anyway?

A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares

Would you rather read a spooky book in the dark with only a candle for light or by yourself in a locked brightly lit room?

Let’s keep that light on please! I love a candle-lit room but absolutely not when I’m reading a spooky novel. I’m a wuss and not afraid to admit it ;-).

Would you rather face your worst fears or be trapped in the mind of a killer?

I don’t want to face my fears and I don’t even need to be offered a choice, it’s no no no.. I heard about those people who like to overcome their fears and feel on top of the world when they succeed but I’m not one of them. Let me be trapped in the mind of a killer, it’ll probably all be over sooner.

Would you rather watch a scary movie or read a scary book?

I don’t like scary movies… the few I saw (because guys don’t care about your wellbeing on that front at all) were spent hiding behind a pillow for more than half of the movie. I don’t mind reading a scary book though, it’s easier to tamp down my imagination when reading, when I’m watching there’s no escape.

Would you rather read spooky books during the fall time or all year?

Eh. You mean that one spooky book every year right? Well if I’m going to read one then I choose during fall.

Would you rather read 10 spooky books in October or 10 spooky books all year?

Pff these questions are getting harder by the minute. Difficult choice between getting it over and done with and probably become desensitized with the overdose or take it in slow doses. Hmm, I think I’ll spread those reads after all.

For those of you who can, here are ten (+3 because I’m on a roll) spooky and scary books. Have you read any of them yet?

Ward Zero: The Dead Ward by Linda Huber
The Lingering by SJI Holliday (review coming up)

  1. Thanks so much for this tag Inge 🙂 I will try to do it in the first chance. work is hectic this week so blogging declines!

I am adding The Visitors by Catherine Burns from your list, sounds intriguing to me!

  2. Hahahaha 😀

I remember Casper from my childhute. That was actually a cool movie!

That kitty cover is awesome ❤

I think overcoming one's fears is totally overrated. Like, imagine someone (me) is afraid of snakes. That's a good thing! I'll never be the one to hug a rattlesnake cuz "omg, so cute" and then die on the spot. 😀

Love your list of books! Lingering was already on my radar, but Sawkill Girls is promising too. Mostly cuz the cover is so lovely ❤

  4. Great answer! We think alike for most of these. 😉 I actually like creepy reads, so it’s all year long for me. 😉 Also, I kind of detest vampires, although having to choose between vampires and werewolves is a bit of an impossible decision in the first place. xD

  5. Oooh this is a fun one. Thanks for the tag. I’m not a big horror fan myself. Lol. I’d definitely pick the movie over the book though… my mind would get too warped by the book. At least the movie should be done in about 90 mins!

  6. Love this post! ❤ I'm with you on scary books vs scary movies. I do watch scary movies, but I find so many of the modern ones rely on jump scares and they get me every time 😛 There's nothing quite like settling down for the evening with a spooky book and allowing your imagination to do the work 🙂
Hope you had a great Halloween!

  7. woop, thanks for the tag! 🙂 I really liked your answer to the vampires v werewolves.. I wonder what else popped into your head as you were considering the pros and cons of each? hehehe…
And I agree- the questions did get harder, hmm…
Generally, I am quite neutral about horror and spookiness so I think my answers would be quite boring 🙂 Sometimes I’m even a bit jealous of people who get easily scared by horror genre because it’s a feeling, right/ It’s a bit like living the life on the edge when watching a horror movie or reading a horror book…

    • Well euhm there’s clothes ripping every single time which means to have to have a good job those werewolves or go around naked… They’re both immortal but werewolves can grow old in a nice way if they decide to stop shapeshifting, but vampires well it’s kind of all or nothing, they get killed or they starve themselves to death so you see, tough choices ;-). I even jump when someone walks too quietely in the office so I don’t really need those horror movies to get a good scare :-). Thanks Liis!!

      • hahaha, brilliant.. I always thought that very hardly the clothing aspect of werewolves is addressed… like they jump out of their body and rip their clothes but then in movies they seem to be wearing the said ripped clothes again… maybe they buy the same stuff in bulk, make it cheaper? 😀

    • You’re very welcome. It’s the other way around with me.. I only like pics on IG when I place a photo myself most of the time.. I’m in absolute awe how people make those stories and have ‘moving things’ on them! I guess it’s because I’m such a noob that I’m not more excited about Instagram ;-).
