Happy 2019 everyone.. my best wishes to you all!
I can’t believe another year has flown by! It’s been a year of ups and downs, for me as a blogger and on a personal level. I have to admit the personal part really affected the blogging part too sometimes.
If I look back I have to admit it was actually quite a stressful year for me. The source of most of it is the fact that *official announcement following now* I have bought my own crib this year and I’m moving house (or appartement really) in 2020! I know it’s still a long time but I’ve been sitting on this news for 6 months already and I thought it’d be nice to finally share.
It might sound silly but I really pushed my limits this year. I had to make a life-changing decision (oh horror) and I’m really not good at making decisions, I had to meet strangers at banks for a loan, negotiate, have grown-up talk… it was all way out of my very introvert comfort zone (I need a printed route when I go somewhere new and have to virtually go over it at least 5 times beforehand, just to let you know I’m not as easy as other people with the unknown) and I had a serious dip in July that even made me go to the doctor for something to control these overwhelming feelings. I also felt very lonely. They only gave me stupid homeopathic pills that didn’t do anything though but I pulled through regardless and I did it, the deed is signed and I have a loan I’m already paying back.
Stage 2 is still to come in 2020 – the moving part – which won’t be easy either and I don’t look forward to the practical side or the emotional side of it all but there’s no way back now (you can’t imagine how many times I have wished for it though).
I will have lived ‘here’ for almost 20 years by then (11 years with my boyfriend/husband and the rest on my own) so saying goodbye pains me already but the owner is selling the building (with 2 apartments) which means I have had visitors coming over the floor almost every week for over 5 months and yes the wait to hear someone wants to buy (please not yet) is also very stressful. I don’t want to be kicked out yet and even if they let me stay at first I don’t know if I can stay on for years so I don’t want to wait. My grandmother also sold her house last year, lives with my parents now and gifted me a certain amount of money and thirdly it’s just better for me to live in a city, especially when I’m getting older, because I don’t have a car (or license) and everything seems so far away and it makes life just more difficult. It’s a way of taking care of myself really. Sometimes your head tells you what you have to do even if your heart isn’t completely in it.
But there you go, I made a decision for the best, not feeling very happy atm but I hope that will come when I’m settled. It’s all still a long way to go but here you can see where I’ll be (on the fourth floor so not really):
It should become this:
It’s going to be as big as I live now (which isn’t so big at all, only 70m²) and I’m already worried how to fit all my books in ;-). I’ll make it work though, don’t worry about that.
So for 2019 I’m going to try and be happy and I’m also going to try and have more positive thoughts.
As for the blog:
1. I plan to take it easy this year about posting. In the past I was very strict and posted like clockwork on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday. It needed to be this way, nice and clean and I wanted to meet everyone’s expectations but ever since I broke the rhythm I’m strangely okay with it. Nobody’s forgetting about me if I skip one of these days and ok my OCD side isn’t too happy how my blogging bar looks but I can live with it, I can :-).
2. I hope to read more of my own books this year. Wait didn’t I already say this last year? Well I did read some but maybe not as much as I planned.
I’m setting my Goodreads challenge this year on the same number as last year and the year before because I’m fairly sure I can reach my goal. In 2018 I read 69 books and my challenge was set at 60. In 2017 I read 65 and in 2015 I also read 69 books.
3. I haven’t read a series last year because it’s so hard to keep up but I really want to try to read at least one this year. I have several in mind: I want to read Carol Wyer’s series of Natalie Ward, I want to read Angela Marson’s series, I still haven’t read all the books by Robert Bryndza, I haven’t started Helen Fields’ books yet although I have an ecopy of book 1..
On a final note, I only want to thank YOU for being here for me last year, for commenting and reading. I have had almost 30.000 total views (and 14.500 visitors) last year which is so amazing! It has warmed my heart, it has helped me with my confidence, it has done more for me than you know. I hope to see you again and again this year and I wish you all the best!
So there you have it, my resolutions for this year. What about yours?
I am doing a buddy read on the Angela Marson series starting Feb you should join in!! We are doing one book a month! and I want to catch up with Carol and Robert and Helen’s books so we could buddy read them together?!!? Happy New Year xx

Oh that’s so nice of you but I’m a slow reader and it takes me a week to finish a book. But let me know when you’ll start the second of the AM series and when you’re going to read The Birthday by Carol Wyer and I’ll at least try to start at the same time :-). Thank you so much Zoé! Happy New Year to you! ❤

Hey I am ok with that! Lol the buddy reads we are still figuring out what we are doing. So no panic. I think AM is March and I can do the birthday whenever after Jan (I will reread it so we can read the last lullaby together?!)

Great!! I’m going to order the paperback of The Last Lullaby because there’s a babysitter in it called Inge and in my mind I was the author’s inspiration 🙂 so I’ll read the first soon and let you know when I’m ready for the sequel :-). Fun! I look forward to it!!

I’m not surprised you’ve been very stressed going through all that. We went through something similar a few years ago and it was absolutely awful. Well done for doing it and coming out the other end!!! Here’s to a wonderful 2019 on the blog and in real life! xxx

Thank you for understanding so well. It would have helped if I didn’t have to tackle this all alone and I definitely didn’t take the easy way out, just renting somewhere else or going to live with my BF. Here’s to not looking back and only going forward. Happy New Year my lovely friend ❤

Wow! Congratulations on buying your own crib! 🙂 It sure is stressful and scary and huuuuggee, but you’ve taken some massive steps already and that’s something you can be so proud of! 🙂
Wishing you the very, very best for 2019- in bookish and personal terms! 🙂 Lots of happiness, love, books and success! ❤

Thank you Liis! It is SO not for me to do something like this, I surprised myself and I think blogging helped to build my confidence and believe in myself. I had some great support from people at work too, that really helped me so much. Aren’t you moving too or did you move already? Thought I saw it mentioned. I’m wishing you a very very New Year darling. I do so hope that the best is yet to come for both of us ❤

🙂 Positively surprising yourself is the best- I love it because it makes one feel like .. invincible, in a way 🙂 and I am glad to hear that you had some great support! That’s always important! 🙂
Yes! I am moving too… I’d probably about half way across Europe by now if it wasn’t for work and having to do 16 hour workdays for the best part of December… bleh… I will renew my efforts this month and hopefully be on my way to Estonia by the end of the month 🙂 it is bloody stressful, but I’m trying to keep my eye on the end result! 🙂 That’s why your blog post also gave me a bit of a boost… someone is already doing something similar with big changes, taking risks, moving on with life… it does give that little kick up the bum to get moving too 🙂

OMG well I’m not even moving to another country so I can only imagine how that would be, although it is your ‘home’ country so you have that at least and you’ll probably live close to people you know too. If anyone can do it it’s you, you’re such a strong person! Good luck with the move already… I’ll be thinking of you (not in a creepy way!) xxx

Happy new year, Inge!
Congrats for going through with buying a flat! Those pics look really cool – love the size of those windows! I have a similar one in my living room, and while it means less space for shelves and stuff, it’s just lovely to sit here in the mornings.
It’s pretty annoying when the landlord has viewings all the time, so that’s clearly not helping with the stress
Hope you are feeling better soon, and that 2019 will bring you many wonderful things ❤

Ha well the one good thing about the viewings is that it helps to clean so much :-). I like the floor to ceiling windows too and the balcony where I’ll be able to people watch :-). There’s nothing to see here and it’s cool and quiet and peaceful (and boring) but I like the fact that I can see people walking by but not having to talk to them :-). I feel better already for sharing with my friends! Happy New Year Norrie, I hope it’ll be the best year ❤

Happy New Year to you too, Inge! I hope 2019 brings you everything you wish for, and so much more.
I’m sorry to hear that 2018 was such a roller coaster ride of stress and upsets, for you. And I hope that in taking such a brave course of action in buying your own place, will be the break you need to get back on your feet. Making a move is bad enough, throw in that you are going to your own home, just adds to the stress levels. Just take good care of you as you navigate this new adventure.
And remember, your online fiends will be here, with you, every step of the way whether you post every day, or once a week.
As for my goals this year? Just to hang out, when I can, online. Read more. 2018 was a really bad year for me. And yes, like you, I want to read at least one new series (Katherine Arden—thanks to Vera’s suggestion).
All the best, Sweetie!

I had no idea 2018 wasn’t what you hoped it would be, I’m sorry to hear that. I hope 2019 will be better for both of us and make us happy. I can live with your goals :-). Thank you for being there for me in the past and in the future, it means so much to have such lovely blog friends who can take my mind of my worries when I need it most with great reviews and fun tags to read :-). I’ll do my best to take care of myself… I already did last year when deciding to go on vacation on a whim, I really needed to get away from it all then and did me good (even though I got mails and calls from the notary and the bank even there even if that wasn’t supposed to happen anymore). Thank you again Alex, to a happy 2019!

And I’m so happy to be a part of your online life, Inge. Fill this year with lots of laughter and happiness the best way you can, and enjoy the small things. ❤

Congrats on buying a place!!!! That is so exciting. I’ve never owned my own place, but I did try to buy a house several years ago. The deal ended up not going through, though. I hope everything goes well with it from now until moving day!
I also want to read Angela Marsons’ series this year. I feel so out of the loop on it!

Thank you! At least nobody can make me leave ever again then. Oh sorry to hear your deal didn’t go through… maybe someday right ☺️ I hear it’s typically Belgian though that lots of people want to build a home and lots want to own. Prices for rent are so expensive it’s better to buy, it’s about the same amount each month.
Same here for reading A.Marsons, I did read the first novel already though a few years ago and I enjoyed it too. If you want to read novel 2 with me in March let me know.. we can both try to join Zoe (they read the first in Feb) and maybe we can cross it off the list then 😃

I feel your pain with buying a flat… I’m doing it right now, and it was so overwhelming. All the serious talks at banks, though of taking a mortgage… I found a flat in building that’s almost ready so my stage 2 is coming in few months. It’ll be hard to move all of the stuff I accumulated over 7 years, and all the books! Congrats on making such a big decision and buying a home, it’s hard but for sure worth it. And you’ll be able to design your perfect bookshelves there 🙂 And, girl! 70 m2 is such a big flat! I’m buying a minuscule apartment in comparison – 37 m2 😉

Oh wow, well you know what I’m talking about and you’ve been there. But it’ll be over for you before you know it :-). I guess people are used to living big here then because most ‘small’ apartment spaces are 90m² (2 (bed)rooms). I guess that’s why our rent is also high here :-). The smallest you can find here is a ‘studio’ with no separate bedroom and that’s normally 54 m². I wish I was in your place already! Good luck with the packing!!

Thanks Annie! Well I saved for almost 20 years, had help from family and took a loan.. We don’t have a lot of choice here either.. If you know that pension here is a bit over 1000 euro and renting ‘cheap’ is 650 euro it’s not possible to live when there’s no more money coming in so we kind of have to (if you’re a couple it’s all much easier to take of course). I’m quite envious of people (I know a few Portuguese people) who can simply live and don’t worry about later. It’s not my nature though and as I said I should move to another country then (I can still do and sell by then but knowing me, I’ll probably stay in my safe haven :-)).

In Barcelona renting is like 750 minimum if you want a decent flat and I’m afraid they will increase it to 1000 this April because the contract finishes. I’m like you, I always worry about these things haha

Even though you aren’t too happy about it now – if I’m reading things correctly – still a huge congratulations on buying your own apartment! It isn’t an easy step to take, especially if you’ve lived in your “old” place for as long as you did and still do. It definitely won’t be an easy feat. Even I’m having a hard time with our move to the house and we only lived in that apartment for two years. I can’t even imagine what it would be like after twenty..
The packing and stuff will definitely be stressful. As will be the move itself. At least you can find some comfort, hopefully, in knowing you have a lot of time to prepare – mentally and practically. Although that also means you have plenty of time to get angsty and worried and whatnot, but I’m sure you’ll be okay. If you were able to get that loan, you’ll definitely be able to figure out your move! I believe in you!
